SAD EAR'S: Former Super Eagles defender Uche Okafor found dead

Uche Okafor was a member of Nigeria’s winning team at the 1994 African Cup of Nations. He also represented Nigeria at the 1994 & 1998 FIFA World Cup. Besides playing for various teams in Europe, Okafor played for the Kansas City Wizards in MLS from 1996 to 2000.
Former Super Eagles defender Uche Okafor was (Thursday) found dead at his home in Dallas, Texas, USA. He was 43 years old.


He is said to have taken his daughter to school earlier in the day and was later found hanging from a rope in his home. His home has been cordoned off by the authorities and his death is being investigated. It hasn’t been established yet if it is suicide. A spokesman for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said Okafor's body would be examined Friday.


Uche started his football career at the defunct ACB Football club, Lagos, before moving to Belgian first division side KSV Mechelen. He also played for German team Hannover 96 before ending his career in the US Major League Soccer (MLS) with Sporting Kansas City.


He was a member of the North Texas Soccer Association where he was head coach for the 91 Gold Central boys team and the 93 HP Central boys team who play in the Plano Premier Select Soccer league. Right up until his death he was an African football analyst on ESPN’s Press Pass ESPN on the programme PressPass.
